Mothers and Daughters:
Revisiting the Power of this Integral Female Relationship
Marion Solomon, PhD. & Bonnie Goldstein, PhD.
and
Carol Yellin, MFT & Jaimee Yellin, LCSW
May 2, 2010 1:00 - 4:00PM at the Beverly Hills Country Club
$35 until April 30, $45 at the door (3 CEUs)
Two sets of mother-daughter therapists, Marion Solomon & Bonnie Goldstein, and Carol Yellin & Jaimee Yellin, will present a relational based, attachment informed view of the mother-daughter bond. Whether traveled individually, as a mother-daughter team, or as a clinician interested in the mother-daughter relationship for their professional practice, participants will enhance their clinical skills while exploring the bonds of attachment.
Interweaving attachment theory (Bowlby, Main & Hesse) to explore women’s relationship choices, from friendship to romance, Bonnie Goldstein revisits the foundation upon which relationship is built in order to foster self-awareness and effect change. Describing innovative research specifying circuitry in our brains that can map the mind of another person (Siegel, Schore, & Porges), modalities to process and integrate one’s experience include Sensorimotor interventions (Ogden) and mindfulness based therapeutic techniques which cultivate safety, understanding, and enhance communication in the mother-daughter relationship. Marion Solomon interweaves research and clinical application, leading an interactive discussion with the participants and with the Solomon-Goldstein and Yellin-Yellin mother-daughter dyads.
Carol and Jaimee Yellin will address a developmental approach to addressing mother-daughter communication and share specific steps for establishing and deepening this lifelong intimate bond. Together, they will focus on communication styles as they change over the life span of the mother-daughter affiliation, and discuss tools to improve positive outcomes as well as to understand what can go wrong. Participants will receive a series of worksheets delineating experiential exercises, to be utilized throughout the afternoon.
Dr. Marion Solomon's clinical practice specializes in the treatment of couples and she continues to explore treatment modalities to best effect change in relationships! She brings her interest in the lifelong impact of early attachment issues to this Mother-Daughter conference. In an effort to create a dialogue amongst leading researchers, scientists and clinician, she co-founded the Lifespan Learning Institute. She is on the faculty of the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, and continues her tenure as a senior extension instructor of the Department of Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences at UCLA. She is author of numerous books including "Narcissism and Intimacy "and "Lean on Me: The Power of Positive Dependency in Intimate Relationships", and is releasing her newest book, co-authored with Dr. Stan Tatkin, Love and War In Intimate Relationships (In Press, Norton Publishers). The focus of Dr. Bonnie Goldstein's work is to foster and heal relationships through the lens of attachment theory, somatic and mindful awareness, and the dynamic interaction of group psychotherapy. She helps clients navigate through life’s complexities by addressing developmental issues, family systems, and transitions-to-adulthood. Her work integrates traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy with progressive psychotherapeutic interventions such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, hypnosis, mindfulness exercises and EMDR. In 1989 Dr. Goldstein founded and has continued to direct the Center for Psychological Services, offering a training opportunity for clinical interns, school-search assistance, and ongoing weekly therapy groups helping children and adolescents transition to the next stage of life, as well as two groups for young-adults. She is co-editor of The Handbook of Infant, Child, and Adolescent Psychotherapy, Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment, Vol I & II and Understanding, Diagnosing, and Treating Attanetion-Deficit Disorder/Hyperactivity Disorder in Children and Adolescents. www.drbonniegoldstein.com
